Let Them Stay! Status for All (Panel Discussion)
Sep 30, 4:30pm - 6:00pm
Room 313, Student Centre, York University

In the context of the never-ending “War on Terror” refugees, migrants, and racialized people are increasingly being racially targeted, dehumanized as security threats, and criminalized through unprecedented police and state powers. Despite its rhetoric of ‘liberating’ and ‘protecting’ women globally and locally, the Canadian state is detaining an increasing numbers of women and children that cross these borders. In light of increasing repression and exclusionary policies and idelogies, we demand “Justice, Freedom, and Status for All!”

Continuous Journey (Film Screening)
Sep 30, 6:30pm - 8:30pm
Room 313, Student Centre, York University

In 1914, the Komagata Maru, a ship carrying 376 immigrants from British India, was turned away by Canada. The consequences were felt throughout the British Empire. Continuous Journey is a compelling and eye-opening investigation into the past and present ramifications of this incident. Continuous Journey is a provocative, moving, and multilayered essay that interweaves photographs, newsreels, home movies and official documents to unravel a complex and little-known story that is more relevant today than ever.
