Elections2011: 'Vote' on the Streets!
6th Annual No One Is Illegal May Day of Action for Status for All

On May 1, International Workers Day, join tens of thousands of people across North America and millions across the planet. Workers waged and unwaged, migrants with and without status: refuse to be silent in the face of deepening austerity, job losses, environmental destruction, imperialist wars and corporate greed.

We are encouraging people to bring their dreams, visions and hopes for justice and dignity on placards, on clothing and on pieces of paper. We will be accompanied by marching bands, floats, puppets, and more.

WHAT IS STATUS FOR ALL?
Federal, provincial and municipal governments deny good food, healthcare, livelihood, childcare, education, shelter, justice and dignity to those without full immigration status. Indigenous people, poor people, immigrants of color, many women, queer people and the disabled community are also denied these basic freedoms, even when they have immigration status. The fight for Status for All is a fight for all people, irrespective of citizenship, gender, sexuality, disability or racialization, to live freely, with respect, without fear.

No One Is Illegal! May Day of Action for Status for All!
Join the Education Not Deportation Contingent!

May 1, 2011
1 pm in Parkdale, at the corner of Queen and Jameson

Banner making will be held at the Ryerson Student Centre (55 Gould Street, Toronto) this Wednesday at 2pm.

As post-secondary students and university workers we see daily how our colleges and universities invest in mining and in corporations that push for wars and occupation. We see freedom of speech being systematically attacked, labour rights purposefully eroded and the drive for profit overriding all other concerns. As tuition fees rise and barriers to accessible education increase our universities and colleges become sites of exclusion which disproportionally keep out racialized and indigenous youth.

This we oppose!

As our universities and colleges become complicit in pushing people out of their homes from lands in the Global South and Indigenous communities on Turtle Island they slam their doors shut on migrants and on undocumented people.

This we oppose!

For there to be just and accessible education people must have access to; food, healthcare, shelter, childcare, livelihood and dignity. For there be just and accessible education people must be free from fear of police violence, detention and deportation. For there to be just and accessible education there must be status for all.

On May 1, we take to the streets. We march for Status. We march for Education. Join Us!

****ON MAY 1, 2011, ‘VOTE’ IN THE STREETS!****

Health For All calls on all of our supporters and allies to join us in the health contingent at this year’s May Day of action to demand justice & dignity for all migrants!

1 pm in Parkdale, at the corner of Queen and Jameson

March to push immigration enforcement out of our hospitals, health centres and out of Toronto! Demand access to healthcare without fear of debt, denial of services, detention & deportation! Stop cuts to public services! Universal health coverage for all! Universal status
regularization for all!

Hundreds of thousands of people with precarious status in Canada continue to be denied access to healthcare because they are uninsured. From the 3 month OHIP waiting period for new immigrants in Ontario to the discriminatory second tier Interim Federal Health Program for refugee claimants to the workplace injuries of temporary foreign workers and to the thousands of dollars in hospital fees charged to the uninsured, every year migrants die from entirely preventable causes because they are denied equal status and are excluded from our healthcare system.

Meanwhile, a racist Conservative government is mounting an election campaign on an unprecedented anti-migrant platform. Having delivered massive funding cuts to immigration settlement agencies and declaring health centres serving migrants with an anti-oppression framework as ‘nonsense,’ this government is rapidly overseeing a cultural shift to the right.

Health For All joins No One Is Illegal in calling on all those that believe in health, food, shelter, housing, education, childcare and livelihood for all people and against the racist scapegoating of migrants to join us on International Workers Day, the 6th Annual No One Is Illegal May Day of Action.

We’re here, We're Queer, We won't go away!

1pm, May 1
Rally and March. Free Meal.
Queen & Jameson St. (Parkdale)

The elections are coming and our friends at No One Is Illegal - Toronto are organizing a march for Status for All on May 1, at 1pm, starting in Parkdale.

It is time for queers, homos, trans people, gender benders and blenders, fierce femmes, leather daddies and mamas, poets, voguers, artists, brazen butches, freaks, riot grrrls and bois, porn stars, singers, dancers and ruckus causers to join in the fun!

All together now: We’re here, We're Queer, We won't go away! Join No one Is Illegal in coming out against deportations, detentions, and to demand Status for All!

Why march on May Day?

Because Canada claims to be a safe haven for queer and trans migrants, but Jason Kenney removed all mention of queer marriage from the Citizenship guide. He has repeatedly turned down queer and trans refugee claimants, and refused to issue work permits to trans people. He appointed Doug Cryer, known anti-gay activist, to the Immigration and Refugee Board. Undocumented trans people are unable to access name changes or sex marker changes. The Tories pulled the plug on Pride funding and they killed Bill C-389, limited as it was, by maneuvering at the Senate.

We say, Enough!

Since coming to power, the Tories have cut funding to women's advocacy groups and initiatives by 43%, closing 12 of 16 Status of Women offices across Canada and eliminating funding for legal voices for women including the National Association of Women and the Law and the Court Challenges Program. They have cut funding to safe abortion services abroad. They have ordered border thugs to attack women fleeing violence at shelters and support services. Just two weeks ago, immigration regulations were introduced where spouses or common law partners would have to stay in a relationship for two years after coming to Canada to gain permanent status - forcing people to choose between abusive partnerships or losing status, and further placing queer relationships under the scrutiny of the state.

We say, Enough!

These homo-hating, women bashing, raucously racist Tories are bombing Afghanistan and Libya, supporting the Israeli governments’ violent attacks on Palestinians, stoking the Tar Sands as it eats up our atmosphere and puts Indigenous communities under increased threat, while letting Canadian mining companies plunder resources and push people off their lands around the world. When displaced people - migrants arrive here in Canada, they meet borders, detention centers, deportations and a racist and homophobic immigration system.

We say No More!

It's time we take to the streets- to poke fun at the miserable Tories and demand ; No One Is Illegal! No Fences! No Borders!

To get involved, or to endorse this march, email queerg20resistance@gmail.com

Also, come to our planning meeting and art day on April 23rd, 3pm, 55 Gould Street.

Green Bloc

Environmental groups in Toronto will be joining No One Is Illegal Toronto and their allies in the streets during the march for Status of All this May 1st. We march for environmental justice. We march for justice for migrants. Join Us!

Wear Green, bring signs, bring placards, and bring your friends!

Resisting environmental destruction means resisting displacement. We demand FREEDOM from Colonization, Military and Economic Wars, and Environmental Degradation.

Increasingly, environmental factors have become a leading cause of forced migration and displacement around the world. The Harper government refused to take ambitious action on climate change and environmental regulation domestically and internationally, dooming millions to migrate due to drought, desertification, rising sea levels, and chemical pollution. At the same time, Harper and former Minister of Immigration Jason Kenney pursued racist, anti-immigrant policies by cutting refugee quotas and proposing legislation such as Bill C-49 which would effectively criminalize asylum seekers.

Currently, those displaced by environmental exploitation are not even recognized under the refugee system, but instead the Canadian government allows for a select few to work dangerous jobs in agriculture and the Alberta Tar Sands. Through these temporary worker programs, people live with precarious status, restricted (if any) access to social services, and they are brought to this land and deemed good enough to work, but not good enough to stay.

Canada must stop denying its involvement in forced migration and displacement as it is home to many of the corporate institutions wreaking havoc on the environment. Canada’s involvement in undemocratic institutions such as the G8/G20 and the WTO, and their imperial cronies the World Bank and IMF, is allowing corporate and predatory control of the land, water, and air through mining, industrial agriculture and monocultures, overfishing, and logging. The environmental crisis has made millions of people’s homes inhospitable, forcing many to cross increasingly restrictive borders and leave their homes.

Within its own borders, the Canadian government is expanding its mining and tar sands operations, poisoning water ways and food sources for local communities, most of which are Indigenous. Logging, non-renewable energy energy expansion, landfills, and waste shipment are affecting marginalized communities so that a select few can profit.

As the Harper government exploited the environment through its colonial agenda, it targeted the lives and livelihoods of Indigenous people, poor people, women, rural people, and people of colour. We demand an end to FREEDOM from colonization, military and economic wars, and environmental degradation.

This May Day Environmental Justice will be marching for Status for All in Parkdale, Toronto. Join the Green Bloc! http://ejtoronto.wordpress.com/upcoming-events/

Palestine Solidarity Contingent - May Day of Action

The Coalition Against Israel Apartheid is proud to join No One Is Illegal’s May Day of Action on May 1, 2011. We are organizing a Palestine solidarity contingent for this march. Bring your flags, banners and join us to demand status for all and justice for Palestine.

Meet us at Queen & Jameson at 1pm - look for the Palestinian flags and CAIA banners!

*Why a Palestine Solidarity Contingent?*

As a result of the ethnic cleansing of Palestine, today there are millions of Palestinian refugees, many of whom live without status all over the world. Issues of status, forced migration and refugee rights have always played a central role in the fight for justice for Palestine. A key demand of the 2005 Palestinian civil society call for Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) is for Israel to respect, protect and promote the rights of Palestinian refugees to return to their homes and properties as stipulated in UN resolution 194.

Israel is a world-leader in ‘homeland security’ and border technology. Israeli technology and weaponry can be found at border fences and immigration detention centres in Canada and around the world. The BDS campaign targets these companies that profit from the exportation of Israeli apartheid.

Toronto Coalition to Stop the War Contingent at May Day

There were more than 5,500 civilian casualties in 2010, 200 civilians were killed including 100 children between February 12 and 26, 2011. The war has cost Canada $22 billion and the lives of 150 Canadian soldiers and tens of thousands of Afghan civilians thus far. The war has caused the displacement of more than 100,000 people in 2010 alone, and while the Conservatives and Liberals cheer the "exporting of Canadian democracy" to... Afghanistan, they continue a war that 80 percent of Canadians want to end.

Enough is enough. Canadians want the troops out now.

Join the Toronto Coalition to Stop the War as we bring this message and march in solidarity with those fighting for migrant justice in the 6th annual No One is Illegal May Day of Action for Status for All.

The march starts at the corner of Queen St West and Jameson st at 1:00 clock. Look for the Toronto Coalition to Stop the War banners and placards and join the contingent. We will be distributing the Canadian Peace Alliance "Where does your candidate stand on the War" pamphlets and making some noise the day before the federal elections.

See you on the streets.

May Day Indigenous/Anti-Colonial Contingent (Castellano Abajo)

The WCCC is calling out to all anti-colonial, indigenous and anti-authoritarian allies to join us for the No One is Illegal May Day of Rally for Status for ALL!

MAY 1st - Corner of Queen St. West & Jameson @ 1PM

We Rise Up in Resistance: Resistance to Oblivion, to Impunity and Plunder, from the most profound sense of our being.

We Rise Up: To Fascism and its racist terror.

We Rise Up: To exploitative mercantile capitalism.

We Rise Up: To the Oppressive States that have turned Life into the Murder of Human Beings...

Our Ñuke-Mapu, Mother Earth, helps us in our effort. Our Young Warriors and Our Wise Elders in Wallmapu, in Turtle Island, give us the Newen [Energy] to rise up and continue resisting the Invader.

They are the ones calling themselves “investors,” who come in a suit and tie and take over our territories. They have the privilege to qualify and disqualify immigrants who have had to abandon their original territories, due to ecological disasters, and displacement from war and economic deprivation, caused by the same pigs that hold their worldwide dominion.

BECAUSE: We as indigenous peoples (and original peoples of this continent) do not recognize the borders imposed on us by colonial/State powers that continuously rape and plunder our land and peoples across the world.

BECAUSE: These Borders have only served to legitimize the ongoing genocide of our peoples, and establish colonial authority over our territories.

BECAUSE: We are SOVEREIGN PEOPLES and no State can impose their jurisdiction on our lands to determine who stays and who is deported.

We call on All of Our Brothers and Sisters to form an Anti-Colonial, Anti-Capitalist contingent, in stating: Neither their Threats, Prisons, Dirty Infiltrators, or immense Power can impede the reclamation of our ancient territories and free us from the slavery of mercantile servitude.

They should never forget: THAT EVEN THE AIR THEY BREATHE IS INDIGENOUS.

Freedom for the Mapuche Political Prisoners of the CAM on a 40+ Day Hunger Strike & ALL INDIGENOUS PRISONERS HELD CAPTIVE ACROSS ABYA YALA & TURTLE ISLAND!

Freedom for the Group of 14 Anarchist and Revolutionaries in so-called Chile on a 60+ Day Hunger strike!

Drop the G20 Charges!

No Borders, No State, No Bosses!

UNTIL THE FINAL RECLAMATION OF ALL OUR ANCIENT TERRITORIES!

CONVOCATORIA

Join Maggie's in marching on May Day: Status for All!

May 1, 2011 at 1pm
Queen St W. and Jameson St (Parkdale)
Look for Maggie's red umbrellas!

Why do sex workers march on May Day?

Sex workers join the May Day March as workers, artists, parents,
lovers, fighters… all the things that we are!!! We want to send a
clear message that sex workers demand decriminalization and migrant
justice for themselves, their families, friends, and for any displaced
people who arrive in Canada to find the injustice of borders,
detention centre, sex workplace raids, stigma, deportations and a
racist and sex worker phobic culture of immigration.

No More!

The elections are coming and the current Tory government is appealing
Justice Himel's landmark decision to decriminalize three provisions of
the Criminal Code that affect sex workers. The Tories have cut funding
to women's advocacy groups and initiatives by 43%, closing 12 of 16
Status of Women offices across Canada and eliminating funding for
legal voices for women including the National Association of Women and
the Law and the Court Challenges Program. They have cut funding to
safe abortion services abroad. They have ordered border thugs to
attack women fleeing violence at shelters and support services.
Immigration regulations were introduced where spouses or common law
partners would have to stay in a relationship for two years after
coming to Canada to gain permanent status - forcing people to choose
between abusive partnerships or losing status, and further placing
queer relationships under the scrutiny of the state.

Come to Maggie's on Sat April 30 at 4pm to make signs connecting sex
workers and migrant justice.

ON MAY !st Come march with DAMN or any other contingent or by yourself or your crew!

WHY MARCH WITH DAMN:

DAMN is a direct action group currently bringing together disabled people, those affected by ableism, and our supporters. We believe that accessibility is more than adding in ramps, it is about ensuring that things are made accessible in a wide variety of ways to a wide variety of people. It also means looking at how different identities intersect and ensuring that there is room for everyone in our struggles. Disabled people must work towards cross disability organizing which allies us to other people with disabilities as well as with other oppressed groups. Whether it is blocking access to an inaccessible subway station or working with other groups to bring over a thousand people out for an Anti-Poverty Day of Action, we have and will keep fighting for what disabled people need to thrive.
