Sunday, June 5, 2011
2pm - 5pm
Allan Gardens, Carlton & Sherbourne
(look for the blue fabric "waves of support")

After two intense weeks of rallies, meetings, street parties, press conferences, video testimonials, calls, emails and petitions - Alvaro is free from detention!

This is a victory for Toronto's queer and arts community, for migrant justice, and for global solidarity. It's a victory against the conservative immigration agenda that is anti-queer and anti-migrant. It's a victory against the silencing of our voices in the mainstream media. It's a victory for those of us that believe that grassroots organizing, collective power and resilience can actually win change.

It's a victory and it's time for a celebration! Come join Alvaro Orozco and his friends and supporters at Allan Gardens at 2pm.

Allan Gardens is one of Alvaro's favourite places in Toronto. It is also an important site of struggle in this city. It is where marches began during the G20 in 2010 and for the No One Is Illegal! May Day of Action 2009. It is where OCAP and Toronto's homeless community set up safe parks and tent cities and resisted Mike Harris's austerity agenda. It's where anti-Nazi rallies took place in the 60s and it's where unemployed workers organized in the 30s.

As we gather in this park to celebrate Alvaro's return to our community, we also commit to ongoing organizing against the immigration-deportation system that exists to exploit queer and undocumented people. At 4pm, we will be having an informal meeting of people who would like to keep organizing under a Queers Without Borders framework.

If you would like to be involved in future organizing efforts but can't be there on Sunday at 4, please email
