Against Ford: Access Without Fear. No One Is Illegal - Toronto and Parkdale Contingent walk together to Mass Meeting to Stop Ford's Cuts

Sep/10/2011 - 11:24 am
Sep/10/2011 - 5:00 pm

10 September 2011
11:45am: Meet at Queen & Dufferin in Parkdale
12noon: Join us at Dufferin Grove Park

Since before Rob Ford lied his way into City Hall, undocumented people and migrant workers have been shut out from basic community services in Toronto. We've had to fight for access to schools and shelter, and still cannot get public housing, decent health care, social services, and often, something as basic as a library card. For years, No One Is Illegal - Toronto has fought to expand services, worked to push immigration enforcement out of our city, and dismantled the borders that shut our communities out of social services so that undocumented people and migrant workers can live with dignity and respect. Now Ford wants to reduce services even further. We cannot allow this to happen.

Toronto Stop the Cuts is calling for a mass meeting on September 10th. The idea is simple: Torontonians meet in the park and lay out a People’s Declaration – a clear set of demands to deliver to City Hall. Then,we will all show up at City Hall on September 26th and 27th to make sure that are these demands are met when council votes on the future of our city.

No One Is Illegal - Toronto and the Parkdale Committee to Stop the Cuts is calling for people to join us at Queen and Dufferin at 12:15pm, or at Dufferin Grove at 1pm. Join us and insist on full, inclusive, quality public services and unionized city jobs for undocumented people, migrant workers, and all Torontonians.

Since May Day 2011, when 2,000 people marched in the streets of Parkdale under the banner 'Stop the Cuts', we have vowed to resist cuts to services at the city, provincial, and federal level. Join us on September 26 and 27 to make sure that City Hall does not vote for policies and legislation that further attack immigrants, poor, and working people in Toronto.

No matter what happens at City Hall, we have to fight to build a Sanctuary City--a city where all people can access services irrespective of their immigration status, their neighbourhood, or their history. We have to fight together against Ford's agenda and build a Solidarity City where labour unions, community groups, service providers, and service users come together to ensure justice for all!
